Research Focus Areas

Discover Technology Opportunities

We work on a variety of areas relevant to mobility. Many of the areas we are working on have a path to commercialization. We have a particular interest in advancing open source and enabling technologies like Rust and Edge AI.

Calls will open two times a year relevant to one or more of these topics. You have the chance also to submit your own idea within these areas for consideration.

Areas of Interest

Four focus areas. Endless possibilities.

Channel Sensing Technologies

Channel sensing offers a non-intrusive alternative to sensors like cameras and microphones. It can also be enabled by existing technologies like WiFi. As an example, several mobility applications demand solutions to detect occupants, authenticate drivers, monitor their driving habits and health. Things like driver fatigue detection, heart rate monitoring, and systems that track stress or attentiveness. Additionally, mobility solutions like autonomous vehicles and car sharing require detecting the presence of passengers in the vehicle.

Location Technologies

Internet of Things (IoT) is a field emerging in mobility driving lots of data and analytics from vehicles to optimize performance and enhance customer service. IoT and many mobility applications (e.g., navigation, fleet management) require consistent connectivity and/or ability to find people and assets, which can be compromised in areas with poor or no network coverage. At Connected Motion we are interested in technologies like sensor-based positioning systems and vision-based localization to address issues like limited network coverage and unreliable location services.

Diagnostics & Inspection Technologies

Maintenance costs are really significant in mobility areas. Additionally, sudden vehicle breakdown can cause huge disruptions for users. Service & inspection are also cost drivers in mobility. Service time is an important measure and damage inspection is susceptible to human error. At Connected Motion we are interested in technologies using AI, machine learning, and IoT to diagnose different types of vehicle failures before they occur and inspect for any failures after occurring.

Vehicle Telematics

The rise of Vehicle Telematics is transforming the mobility landscape by harnessing data from connected vehicles to improve operational efficiency, safety, and customer experiences. Telematics systems integrate advanced sensors, communication networks, and analytics to monitor vehicle performance, driver behavior, and fleet operations in real time. At Connected Motion, we are focused on exploring innovative telematics solutions, such as advanced sensor fusion and onboard data processing, to overcome limitations like inconsistent network coverage and ensure robust, accurate vehicle insights.
